Nourishing Meals for Growing Children: Enriching Mid-Day Nutrition

At Visan Trust, we prioritize the well-being and healthy development of children, which is why special care is taken to enhance the nutritional value of the mid-day meals provided to them. Our aim is to ensure that the meals are not only fulfilling but also enriched with essential nutrients crucial for their growth.

To achieve this, we have incorporated a variety of regularly available and healthy ingredients into their daily diet. These ingredients were previously missing from their meals, but now play a vital role in supplementing their nutrition. Some of these include:

  • Peanuts and jaggery for iron: By including peanuts and jaggery in the meals, we provide a natural and rich source of iron, promoting healthy blood circulation and preventing deficiencies.
  • Nutrient-rich vegetables: Spinach, Shepu (dill), carrots, and tomatoes are regular additions to the meals. These vegetables are packed with vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants, contributing to the overall health and well-being of the children.
  • Fruit power: Guava, papaya, and banana are incorporated to provide essential nutrients like iron and calcium. These fruits not only add natural sweetness to the meals but also offer a range of health benefits, supporting the children’s immune system and bone development.
  • Protein-packed pulses: Moong dal (green gram dal) or red gram dal are included as a valuable source of protein. Pulses are an excellent plant-based protein alternative that promotes muscle growth and repair.
  • Dairy and egg: The inclusion of eggs and milk in the mid-day meals ensures the children receive sufficient calcium and protein, vital for their bone health and overall growth.

By carefully selecting and incorporating these nutrient-rich ingredients, we strive to provide well-rounded and nourishing meals for the growing children in our care. Our focus is not only on filling their stomachs but also on fostering their physical and cognitive development, empowering them to thrive and reach their full potential.
